The Lauren Condominium Association
Minutes of the Board of Directors - October 3, 2001 Special Topic Meeting: AccessibilityPresident Elizabeth VanderPutten called the meeting to order at 8:00 PM in the Manager's Office. Present were other Board members Deborah Becker, Dwight Clark, Joseph Morris and Rebecca Kane. Property Manager Walter Krolman was in attendance, as well as Lauren owner Carolyn Mano. Purpose of MeetingThis Special Topic Meeting is for the purposes of reviewing an architectural proposal of work, verifying the architect's credentials and assessing the overall accessibility plan. Meeting MinutesThere are five areas of accessibility that have been proposed by the architect. The Board has chosen to request more in-depth architectural specifications for the following areas of the Lauren: 1. BasementThe Board has decided to request full architectural drawings of installing a ramp to replace the concrete slap so that the parking garage would be fully accessible. 2. Exterior ExitsWhile there are no possibilities of making the exterior exits fully accessible to persons with severe mobility restrictions, the architect noticed during a site visit that the railings at the N & Sunderland St. exits could be reinforced (possibly replaced) to allow access for persons with slightly limited mobility. The Board has decided to request additional information in the following areas of the Lauren before requisitioning in-depth architectural specifications: 1. Front EntranceThe Board would like to see a bit more detail of the proposed changes to the front door entrance to the Lauren prior to commissioning detailed specifications. In addition, the Board would like the opportunity to visit other areas that have incorporated similar suggested designs. 2. Ground floor to elevatorThe Board would like to see more detail in the suggestion to remove the wall between the two partitions where the mailboxes are housed. In addition, the Board would like to see options of a vertical lift and how they may be incorporated into the design of the front common area. 3. Penthouse Rooftop AccessThe Board is excited by the possibility of making the rooftop accessible to all residents and would like to explore the suggested options while investigating the coordination considerations that would be required with the contractor working on the roof project.
