RE:
Recent Air Conditioning Outage
DATE: July 9, 1999

As you are probably aware the air conditioning in the Lauren
picked the hottest day/night of the year (this past Tuesday) to
experience a brief shut down. Fortunately, the maintenance
contracts that are in place enabled us to have qualified technicians
diagnose the problem and get the system back on line less than
two hours after it was first reported (though believe it or not
nobody brought it to the desks' attention for an hour and a half
after the compressors actually stopped cooling).

With a large portion of the summer still ahead we want to assure
you that the system is sound, effective, and capable of meeting just
about any temperature demand. In fact even when the thermometer
reached 103 earlier the same day the unit was not "maxed out" and
was still supplying appropriately chilled water.

For those of you who are curious the glitch occurred when an air
hose (worth about 5 cents) on a separate control system split. The
resultant rise in temperature signaled the compressors to shut
down to avoid damage (sort of like we wish our car radiators
would do when those hoses split so the motor doesn't seize).

If you are experiencing any problems within your individual units
please leave a work order at the front desk and Lauren
maintenance will check it next Monday.
