Help Our Restaurants Survive The Streetscape

It's been reported that some restaurants on P Street have seen business fall by as much as 40% as a result of the P Street Streetscape project. Traffic and parking woes have led to sharp declines in business. There are already six empty storefronts on P Street, and soon there could be more.

Regine, Ruth, Mark and all the independent restaurant owners on P Street are our friends and neighbors. Places like Pizza Paradiso and Pesce are part of the reason we love to live here. Mark and Orlando's received a rating of Excellent in the 2007 Zagat Guide, and was listed among Washingtonian's 100 Best Bargain Restaurants. Yet they, and their neighbors, including Legends, the Fractured Prune have all seen empty tables because of construction. Those of us who can walk to P Street are the key to the survival of our neighborhood restaurants. They need our help now. Please think of them when you decide where to dine during July and August.
