Two areas of potential health concerns have recently been
brought to our attention.
The first of these is WASA's revelation about raised lead levels in certain drinking water pipes as evidenced by a random sampling throughout the city. Please be advised that the Property Manager called the referenced telephone number and spoke to a WASA representative. He said the concern is with single family homes that have small supply lines. He indicates that large buildings such as the Lauren have at least a 4" supply line that is made out of either copper, brass, or cast iron. According to our public offering statement's mechanical report The Lauren has cast iron soil pipe and fittings. Likewise, domestic hot and cold water piping is copper pipe and fitting throughout. WASA did not think it necessary to send any test kits; however, Property Manager has asked that they do so anyway. In the interest of expediency the Board of Directors may opt to have similar testing done by an independent company.
The second question arose from an owner about the possible existence of asbestos within the self contained convector units found in each apartment. While there is very little chance of asbestos being found in the Lauren, due to its date of construction (early 1970's) the Board is considering having testing done. The Board may undertake such testing even though there is a question of whether this process is an association or individual responsibility. This will not only hopefully set resident's minds at ease, but will also allow us to have a written record should this question arise again in the future |
