Metro Update: July 4 Service Information

Metro will provide extra rail service on Thursday, July 4, for the benefit of customers planning to attend holiday festivities on the National Mall and the Washington Nationals day game. Metrorail will operate from 7 a.m. to midnight, with near rush-hour service levels from 6 p.m. to midnight. There will be no scheduled track work anywhere in the system.

To avoid crowds at transfer stations, riders are encouraged to travel to a station on the same line as their starting point. For example, passengers starting on the Red Line should consider traveling to a station on the Red Line, such as Judiciary Square or Union Station. In particular, riders on the Green and Yellow lines should consider walking from L'Enfant Plaza, rather than transferring to the Orange or Blue lines. After the event, walk back to the same station, on the same line as your origin.

Customers should consider using stations other than Smithsonian or Federal Triangle, which often see the heaviest ridership for National Mall events. There are several stations to the get to/from the National Mall, including Foggy Bottom, Metro Center, Archives, Gallery Place, Judiciary Square, Union Station, L'Enfant Plaza, Federal Center SW, Arlington Cemetery, and Capitol South. Metrobus will also be operating on a Saturday schedule and many routes will be detoured due to festivities.

Additional information about service, fare information, and travel tips for July 4 is available on Metro's website.

Please forward this information along to others so that they can understand these changes and plan appropriately. The most current information will continue to be posted on Metro's website, and for up-to-date information on that day, customers should sign up for MetroAlerts.
