Blackwater Eagle Festival, March 12
Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge

By Becky Krystal

Bird-watchers and fans of our national symbol, take note. On Saturday, March 12, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge will hold its 11th Annual Eagle Festival. The day starts with a two-hour bird walk, with several eagle prowls scheduled into the morning and afternoon. Other activities include a photography workshop and up-close programs with owls and birds of prey. Children can make an eagle puppet, design a wildlife T-shirt and more. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission and activities are free, although people interested in the eagle prowls are encouraged to register the day of the event due to limited space. The refuge is located on Maryland's Eastern Shore, about two and a half hours from Washington. For more information, visit www.fws.gov/blackwater .
