Expect Traffic Disruptions Oct. 8-10

Annual World Bank/IMF meeting to take place in Washington, DC, US, Oct. 8-10. Protests planned. Expect localized traffic disruptions.


Summary

World leaders from 20 countries will convene in Washington, DC Oct. 8-10 for the annual World Bank/IMF meeting. Most of the events will take place in the IMF and World Bank headquarters located in downtown Washington, DC. Security will be extremely tight at the venues. Street closures and detours may occur. Prepare for localized traffic and mass transit disruptions.

A number of protests and opposition events will take place during the meeting. Organizers predict thousands of people will participate in the actions. The following events have been announced:

Oct. 8:

  • 1200: March from Murrow Park, across from the World Bank, to the White House
  • 1730-2000: Block party at Washington Circle (23rd Street and K Street, NW)
  • 2230: March from the intersection of 16th Street and Harvard Street NW - route not announced

Oct. 9:

  • 1200-2000: Festival of Resistance at Freedom Plaza (15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW)
  • 2000: Roving street party

Additional unannounced rallies are also possible, especially outside the World Bank and International Monetary Fund buildings. Police will likely closely monitor all opposition events.

Avoid all opposition events. Allow additional time for travel nearby the World Bank and IMF buildings.
