Dupont Circle Update

2009 State of the Circle

[Delivered on 3/19/09. Amor populi Præsidium Reg!]

Greetings from the Hattie Holmes Senior Wellness Center. Sorry I'm late.

Today I'm going to run through some of the major changes to the Dupont Circle neighborhood in the past year.

At the circle itself, Jurys hotel shut down for a major renovation, closing the Dupont Grille as well.

P St's renovation was finished, bring a new road, new sidewalks, and new fixtures. Cafe Tropé opened and closed. Crepes-a-Go-Go opened. 1 West Dupont Circle Wine & Liquors opened. Saigon Bistro replaced Aioli Meditalian Gourmet. TangySweet opened. Submarina California Subs opened.

On Connecticut Ave, Candleman moved to a new location, then closed. G-Star Raw replaced Sisley. Darlington House replaced Childe Harold.

South of the circle, CVS replaced the old movie theatres, and introduced the new Beauty 360 store. Chop’t opened a location. Hello Cupcake opened. Pasara Thai Restaurant opened. And sadly, Olsson's closed.

On 17th St, Club Chaos closed. Level One opened below Cobalt. Sweetlicks closed. Mr. Yogato opened. Tranquil Space opened. Salon Rouge replaced the Meat Market Gallery. Stead Park was given a new childrens playground.

On the 1400 block of P St, Raku replaced Izakaya within the WFM. Commissary replaced Merkado Kitchen. Lululemon opened. Nearby, a new Vida gym opened. On Church St, Dragonfly and Eco-Green Living closed.

On 14th St, Posto replaced Viridian. Candida's World of Books closed. Timothy Paul Bedding + Home opened. Bang & Olufsen opened. Miss Pixie's opened. Garden District's "Interior Garden Shop" opened. Rue 14 replaced Pop. Source Theatre was renovated and saved from the brink.

On U St, Ulah Bistro opened. DC Noodles and Stem replaced Simply Home. The Healing Arts Gallery opened. Arena Stage began performances in the Lincoln Theater, bringing massive crowds to U St.

Notable projects elsewhere include the opening of Harris Teeter in Adams Morgan and a Yes! Organic Market north of U St. Belgian shop Locolat opened in Adams Morgan. The big Target store opened in Columbia Heights. Georgetown Cupcake brought massive crowds to Georgetown, and Apple got their plans approved for their first DC store on Wisconsin Ave.

The city began a bicycle-sharing program.

Party on, and be excellent to each other.
