PAUL ELLIS AND FREYA GRAND, THROUGH NOVEMBER 26 at The Arts Club of
Washington, 2017 Eye Street NW. The Club’s galleries are open Tuesday-Friday, 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm. For more information, telephone the Arts Club at (202) 331-7282. The Dupont Circle couple approach painting with divergent styles: Ellis' work is ethereal and spacious; Grand's is earthy and dense. Yet, there is a unifying simplicity in the two artists' work. The viewer is reminded of Zen calligraphy and Japanese wood block prints. Ellis and Grand explore the mystery of "the forces in the natural world that are largely unseen and whose effects are experienced subliminally." |
